Chesworth Rovers Red U8's 0 v 3 Chesworth Rovers U9's
Elliott, Harry, Jake, Callum, Rory, Finn, Nyle, Josh
The boys arrived at Forest School on a bright morning following the Christmas break, looking tired sluggish, bleary eyed and weighed down following too much Christmas pudding, the managers arrived soon after.
The red team goalie Leo was absent and with rumours that he had been sold in the January transfer window for a Mars bar and packet of Nicnaks (scampi and lemon flavour) soon dispelled as it turned out he was home in bed feeling unwell. It was down to Elliot to fill the mighty gloves and stand between the sticks. Coach Ellis gave a team talk of all team talks, we all knew the game would be tough and going up against bigger faster and stronger opposition wouldn't be a walk in the park.
The first half was exhausting to watch let alone play in, Nyle was full of running and ripped through the U9's midfield leaving the defence to gang up and stop him from shooting, the U9's then countered and Rory was running a tight ship in midfield stopping attack after attack. Elliot was called to action making some great early saves when shots came in from a strong U9's strike force. Callum, Jake and Harry worked their socks off too, clearing balls pushing forward, immediately turning tail to defend, it felt as if soon they would be rewarded with a goal. However after a great start the first half ended 0 - 0
Second half started and it was all U8 action camping themselves in the U9's half raining shots at goal through Josh and Nyle, Coach Bayliss was getting more animated and nervous at the attention his goal was getting from the U8's. Finlay was making a nuisance of himself but the bigger U9's soon put pay to that and a ball to the side of the head saw Finn subbed and required attention from the team hairdresser as it was feared his curls had suffered some irreparable damage. He was fine but for a small headache. As the game wore on the U8's seemed tired with all their efforts, and a sloppy pass in defence was pounced on by the still fit U9's striker who slotted home to make it 0 - 1. The boys perked up again and Rory was a wall of defiance tackling any player or ref who came near him, he sustained a dead leg after one bone cruncher, but shook it off and carried on. (The pain not his leg)
Callum, Harry and Jake were worked into the floor, Callum tried his blistering runs down the left side but could not believe the U9's matched his pace, his dad will now have him back onto the running machine to work on that and chase him round the garden with Taser.
The U9's then scored a cracker of a goal with sharp crisp passing catching out the U8's defence and Elliot had no chance 0 - 2 and shortly before the final whistle, U9's strike force were at it again to grab a final goal ending a brilliant display by the U8's with a 0 - 3 defeat, but much more in the respect standings.
Man of the match – Rory Quigley
Chesworth Rovers Blue U8's 0 v 10 Chesworth Rovers U9's
Jack, Ben, Charlie B, Seb, Luke, Charlie M, Vinnie, Joe, Elliott
This game showed a difference that one year makes, with most of the U9's towering over our lads. U9's pressure straight from the whistle, Ben in goal seemed to be a giant, he was all over the place putting in diving saves and tipping over the bar from early shots. The U8's then went on the attack pushing up with Luke and Seb passing their way through midfield to Jack who pushed on through the defence and had a shot a goal go wide of the post. The U9's came back and a great pass across goal was met with an equally good strike which had Ben beaten hands down, Joe had other ideas and gave a massive clearing boot upfield off the goal line to deny the U9's their opener. Joe then gave more of the same being a rock in defence and the U8's attack on goal was worthy of a goal, Seb was firing in just wide, with Luke collecting someone’s stud in his shin putting Charlie M into the game while Big Andy the club physio gave Luke side line treatment. The U9's racked up the pressure and the U8's defence was caught short on the breakaway giving 3 goals away in 4 minutes. Just before half time U9's grabbed a 4th leaving U8's 0 - 4 down before the break.
The start of the second half saw Ben up front and Luke back on, working with Seb cutting through midfield, looking to pass up to Ben and set him away to goal. However, the U9's defence was stronger and put pay to some great team work form the U8's but goals continued to come for the U9's who had found a rhythm now, Charlie B was working hard with Joe and Vinnie but the more tackles they put in the more attacks they faced and soon enough U9's had got to 0 - 7 and we’re now into the last 5 minutes of the game. Being the first game back the boys were tired and it showed, Seb having downed 4 red bulls before kick off was full of running and in the end was put to the floor by the U9's defence just to stop him. 3 more goals came before the end leaving the final score 0 - 10.
The score aside there was a great team spirit all through the game, and passing worked brilliantly, well done.

Chesworth Rovers 2 v 1 Lingfield Youth
The red and blue teams were mixed for this week’s games. Match 1 saw a team of Leo in goal with Vinny and Harry lining up in defence. A midfield of Finlay, Rory and Callum with Ben up front, Seb began on the bench. Chesworth started the stronger with Finlay having a good early chance after good work down the wing from Callum. It wasn’t long before the two combined again following a goal mouth scramble, Callum put the ball low across the box and Finlay slid in with a great finish at the far post, 1-0 to Chesworth. Shortly after Chesworth continued to pile on the pressure with Ben causing trouble down the wing and then he was put through only to see his excellent shot hit the post and bounce out. Within minutes Chesworth carved out yet another chance that Rory blasted just over after a great bit of skill from Harry to play him in. As the half went on, Lingfield started getting back into the game and Harry and Rory were both called into action to make key tackles and Vinny was his usual self, stopping anyone who tried to get past him. Half way through the first half Seb came on for Vinny in defence and was immediately in the middle of it pressuring a Lingfield attack that forced them to shoot just wide. Leo was making some saves and commanding his area making sure Lingfield were kept at bay as they came back into the game. As the half came towards a finish Harry picked the ball up in defence took it past at least three players and pushed towards the box only to see his shot go agonisingly wide. Against the run of play in the last seconds of the first half Lingfield scored a screamer from a counter attack that no one could have done anything about. 1-1 at half time.
The second half saw a reshuffle with Harry moving into midfield in place of Rory and Vinny re-joining the game back in defence. Again Chesworth dominated the early exchanges Finlay at one point taking it past three players and playing a great pass to Ben. Shortly after Callum broke through only to see his shot charged down. Again like the first half Lingfield slowly fought their way back into the game and Chesworth were forced to defend more with Finlay and Seb both making some excellent tackles and any times they broke through Leo was there to mop up and ensure the score remained 1-1. Chesworth almost took the lead with Callum playing a teasing ball across the box just inches form Ben’s outstretched foot with goal waiting. With the game coming towards the final minutes Chesworth pressed with a lot of pressure, Callum in particular showing desire to get the win, it was he who got the winner played through by Rory. Callum ran onto a through ball before lobbing the keeping with a superb finish to make it 2-1. They still had five minutes to hold out and Lingfield saw Leo make a good save and a shot slide agonisingly close past the post but at the final whistle Chesworth Rovers had held on for a well-deserved 2-1 win.
Man of the Match:- Ben Etheridge
Chesworth Rovers 4 v 4 Lingfield Youth
Match 2 again saw a mixed line up, the first half saw Joe in goal with a defence of Luke and Danny. The midfield consisted of Jack, Elliot and Nyle with the goal scoring machine Josh up front, Charlie B started as sub. The game kicked off and within 20 seconds there was a disastrous start as Lingfield caught the defence napping and slotted home to make it 1-0 to Lingfield. Chesworth immediately started pressing searching for the equaliser and a great driving run from Nyle won Chesworth their first corner. Lingfield were hungry for more goals and some good defending by Luke who dribbled out of defence and played the ball out to Nyle to ensure the score remained as it was. Lingfield continued to press blazing a shot over the bar from outside the box. The equaliser came after some good work from Josh who passed to Nyle, he shot the keeper couldn’t hold onto it and the ball fell to Jack who only need to tap home into an empty net to make the score 1-1. The goal gave Chesworth the confidence and they pushed on, Josh shooting just wide shortly after. The next time he was far more clinical and ran through the defence before slotting home with a lovely solo goal, 2-1 Chesworth. At 2-1 Lingfield came back into it and Joe was called into action to make two great saves unfortunately Joe made a third save but it bounced out to a Lingfield player to blast home to make it 2-2. Sure enough the goals were still flowing and before half time Chesworth had another Luke took a throw in that released Nyle just outside the box where he turned ran and shot GOAL, 3-2 to Chesworth. As the half came to an end Luke and Danny had to put in some good tackles to keep the scoreline as it was, both making key tackles which were enough to keep the score at 3-2 going into half time.
As with Match 1 there was a reshuffle at half time, Elliot replacing Joe in goal, Luke moving to midfield with Jack moving into defence and Charlie on the wing. Lingfield started the brighter after break and Nyle and Joe both had to make important tackles. Charlie made a good run down the wing and laid it off to Josh as Chesworth began working their way back into the game. Nyle also sent Josh through only for his shot to be saved by the keeper. Josh then put the ball through to Charlie who was quickly shut down. Lingfield continued to press for an equaliser and broke clear only for Luke to slide in for a cracking challenge to ensure the lead was maintained. Lingfield eventually managed to break through however with a breakaway goal to make it 3-3. From the kick off Josh took a shot form his own half that only just dropped wide of the post with the keeper beaten. It wasn’t long before Josh had his second goal though as he picked the ball up and ran through the defence and calmly passed it into the corner of the net. The lead didn’t last long and despite an excellent save from a blasted shot Elliot couldn’t keep it out and before we knew it the score was 4-4. In the dying minutes Chesworth almost won it only for a fantastic last ditch tackle to deny Josh a winner and his hatrick. Luke had to come off because of an injury to be replaced by Vinny who almost instantly picked up the ball and ran almost the length of the pitch before being tackled. That was the last action of an amazing game of football with a 4-4 draw, pretty much the fair result.

Heron Way 0 v 10 Chesworth Rovers Red
This game set to be all in Chesworth’s favour, the ground was soft, the pitch wide and the weather dry and we started up hill.
Heron Way were fired up for this game but as it turned out were no match for the Chesworth passing game. Using the width of the pitch play built up from Danny and Jake using Harry to push to midfield and release Nyle up the left wing, Nyle then whipped balls across the face of goal leaving Heron Way flapping in the wind but Charlie B and Finlay unable to put the ball in the net. The crowd were willing the ball to connect with Charlie B's boot and fly into the net for his first ever goal, but alas it was not to be.
Nyle carried on the runs up the wing and when he was heavily defended it fell to Finlay to run the ball up the right, crossing to Hatman Harry to shoot a low drive across the goal into the bottom corner, 1 - 0 Chesworth and away they went. Nyle crossed again from the left for Finlay to eventually find the net, before Harry added his second and Chesworth’s 3rd, and just before half time Nyle made it 4 - 0 with a stunning blast from distance.
Half time and with no oranges it was water with the team talk. Nyle started the second half between the sticks and Chesworth were hungry for more goals, more passing and moving put Finlay into space and slotted home his second 5 - 0. Josh was pushing forward wanting a goal, passing and moving with Harry and Finlay crossing balls towards Charlie B who kept being denied the golden shot by defenders and great saves from the Heron way keeper.
Leo then connected with a scrappy goal clearance to record his goal 6 - 0 and The Heron Way went on a couple of dazzling runs towards the Chesworth goal, Nyle perked up but Jake and Danny took care of business and set Harry away up field who put the ball wide to Josh on the left who put a cross into goal, it was not cleared by the Heron way defence and fell to Charlie B, was this the moment, the game and time itself slowed down as Charlie took the ball on his right foot, steadied himself and pulled back to shoot, the crowd were silent with baited breath, could it be, could it be..... Charlie B struck the ball lifted it over the keepers out stretched arms and into the roof of the net!! The crowd went wild, Charlie went wild, and Chesworth went wild..... 7 - 0 to the good and Charlie B with his first ever club goal. Harry then claimed a well earned hatrick after the restart, and Josh slotted home doing what he does best, turning defenders in the box and shooting home 9 - 0 to Chesworth leaving Rory to claim a goal and Chesworth’s record 10 - 0 win.
Man of the match - Charlie B
Heron Way 0 v 6 Chesworth Rovers Blue
From the kick off Chesworth went for it, spurred on by the Red team victory, Callum took control on the left wing racing unchallenged up the left side and putting balls across goal for Jack and Seb to shoot, but great saves and defending from Heron Way made it frustrating for the boys. Luke and Elliot linked up well using Seb and Callum to push forward to create shots, Callum went on a run and found the defence move across waiting for him to cross the ball, so he shot instead and 1 - 0 to Chesworth and Callum is at last on the score sheet for the season. This was followed up a few minutes later with his and Chesworth’s second 2 - 0. Some attacks from Heron way were cut short by some strong sliding tackles from Luke who timed them to perfection. Callum is substituted and on comes Charlie M, great holding play in midfield, Heron Way looking to score making the Chesworth defence work a bit but half time arrived 2 - 0.
Second half saw Elliot pushing forward and trying to break through the Heron way defence, Charlie M was having shots, as was Elliot who could not get a shot on target. Callum back on to open up the left side again and what a difference that made, cross after cross coming in from the left gave Seb a brilliant goal from distance 3 - 0. Ben was released by a great Chesworth move, Luke to Elliot who ran at goal, laid off to Callum who put the ball on Bens foot near to goal, Ben turned and grabbed a goal and 4 - 0 to Rovers. Charlie M didn't give up in a goal mouth scrap, driving home his second goal this season and giving the fans a cartwheel celebration. Elliot carried on shooting and earned his reward with a cross goal shot into the bottom corner. A great team display, Chesworth 6 - 0 win.

Saturday 12th Nov.11
The day started with a minutes silence to remember the fallen and gallant heroes of the wars. The respect shown by the boys was commendable, but once over, the battle for victory over Ashington commenced.
Ashington Cougars 1 v 4 Chesworth Rovers Red
The Red Team were given their instructions from Fabio Ellis to keep the ball wide and get crosses in early. Not disturbed by the Official from FIFA (A well meaning father, who looked the part, minus a proper referees shirt) both teams started strongly with Ashington winning the early exchanges with some quick counter attacking football. What was needed was a response from the Chesworth team and this was soon provided by Nyle who tested the goalkeeper early with a low shot, which was parried around the post for the first corner of the game. This early pressure from Chesworth resulted in two further corners with Nyle becoming an increasing menace to the Ashington defence. Ashington remained resilient and it was they who took an early lead following a strong run and shot, that was deflected past Harry off the backside of the Ashington number 9.
This just awoke the Chesworth Boys, some of whom had spent the previous evening partying at the 02 in London until the earlier hours, much to the concern of Fabio Ellis, who now knows what his colleague Roberto Mancini is dealing with at Man City! Fabio Ellis would not comment post the match on the rumours that he is considering signing Treves, but one would argue he is not needed, given the calibre of players at Chesworth. With a first start in the Red team this term in the heart of the defence for Vinnie (aka Jones) Chesworth had a solid foundation in which launch their attacks. With Leo battling in the centre of midfield he placed a fine pass into the feet of Finlay, whose shot rebounded off the keeper to the sharp shooter Josh. Josh returned the ball with interest into the left hand side of the net to make it 1-1. Ashington however remained a threat, but with Vinnie and Callum keeping their shape in the centre of defence Chesworth were hard to breakdown. Nyle continued to threaten Ashington and following a burst of speed that took him past two defenders he gave the Goalkeeper the good news, though he was equal to the task with a fine blocking save, which meant he would look like Steve Bruce for the rest of his life! With Fabio Ellis conducting his team like Andre Previn from the sidelines, Finlay played the ball of the match inside the Ashington full back for Josh to smash home goal number two. This was quickly followed by goal number 3 from Nyle who got his rewards following a very good first half display.
The team talk at half time was inspirational which saw Fabio Ellis tinkering with the starting 7. He replaced Vinnie (Jones – had to go for an audition) with the ever energetic Rory to stiffen up the midfield. Again Chesworth pressed the Ashington defence which resulted in an early strike from Josh which hit the post. With Chesworth looking to build on a good first half Harry attacked at will down the left and put in a series of great crosses which were well defended by the tiring Ashington defence. At this point of the game both wide boys, Nyle and Finlay, were playing like Finney and Mathews, causing all sorts of problems on both flanks. Following the final substitution when Leo was replaced by Vinnie (He returned from his audition – he didn’t get the part) the game was finally killed off by a piece of brilliant individual skill, when Josh turned on a sixpence to beat the keeper with a shot to the top right hand corner of the net. It was not enough to earn him the Man of The Match; probably as he was one of the culprits partying the night before, but he can be satisfied that he remains the team’s top scorer. That honour went to Finlay who thoroughly deserved the accolade.
Man of the match = Finlay Ellis
Ashington Cougars 1 v 5 Chesworth Rovers Blue
The pre match warm up involving shooting gave the opposition a sign of what to expect from a team strengthened by the inclusion of Jake who was a power house throughout the game, helping his team to get an early grip on the game. The early exchanges saw Elliot trying his luck from long range which went narrowly wide. This was quickly followed by the opening goal which came as a result of a strong challenge by Danny who gave the ball to Jake who ran past two Ashington defenders to open the scoring with a powerful shot. With Ashington trying to recover from this early strike they were again undone this time by an interception from Sebby who quickly found Ben, who in turn made it 2-0 with a confident finish. Chesworth never looked in any real danger despite some counter attacking by Ashington but with Harry, Elliot and Joe in defence it was difficult for Ashington to make any real progress. The third goal was a fine individual effort from Sebby who beat two players and shot at goal only for the rebound to come back to him which he finished with ease.
With coached Baldini and Pearce (aka Mark & Tony) looking on with pride the remainder of the second half was all Chesworth with Jack at centre forward testing the keeper on 3 separate occasions with some fine shots. Following a short break for an injury to Charlie who quickly recovered following the threat of being substituted the fourth goal duly arrived from Jake who struck a fine shot into the corner of the net.
At 4 – 0 up at halftime Baldini decided to mix it up a little placing Jack in goal who made a series of good saves when called into action. The second half started very much like the first with strong runs from both Elliot and Seb who let fly early to see his shot go just wide. With Luke becoming an ever increasing presence he defended with real strength allowing his team mates to go forward. This they did and with 5 mins remaining and with Jake just about to pull the trigger he was cruelly scythed down to hear ‘Penalty’ from the vocal crowd of 43 parents! The referee at first froze but hearing the crowd he was duly influenced which resulted in Jake dusting himself down to slot home the penalty. His reward was a substitution which gave Ashington a bit of confidence going into the final few minutes of the game. They however did not bank on Jack in goal who was kept busy for a short spell and who made two very good saves in succession. Finally, Ashington did get a consolation goal but it was too little too late. The Man of the Match for his strong running and tackling was Joe, who just piped Danny, who put in another good shift.
Man of the match = Joe Gardner
As the fixture ended the Ashington coaching staff, having been outfoxed by Fabio Ellis and his two assistants, looked as disappointed as the two Irish divers who after 100 years on the sea bed found that the Titanic’s swimming pool was still full!

Horsham Ambassadors 0 v 3 Chesworth Rovers Red
The rain held off on this gloomy Saturday match at Arunside, Red Team, Leo, Jake, Harry, Callum, Nyle, Rory, Finlay and Josh with Joe as Sub.
Both Teams went for glory straight from the kick off, Ambassadors wanted to put one over on Chesworth who in turn wanted to prove a point. It was a battle switching from end to end, Jake and Callum were comfortable in defence cutting short any early attacks and feeding the ball to Harry and Nyle, who made some blistering runs forward only to be denied by some strong Ambassador tackles. Chesworth bunched too close together and made more progress when playing wider, Josh in possession cutting through the defence but tackled for a Chesworth corner. Ball put into the box, gathered by Harry who’s shot isn't cleared and falls to Josh who doesn’t miss from that close to goal, 1 - 0 Chesworth. Finlay and Nyle both run at the Ambassadors defence who close ranks and keep Chesworth at bay, pressure from Ambassadors as a breakaway is cleaned up by Callum, and Jake really working together to keep Ambassadors at bay, Harry dropping back to help out when required.
Nyle keeps running at the Ambassadors, passing in field to Josh who is now marked by 3 players to keep him from shooting, Josh passed out wide to Finlay, great run to goal denied by the Ambassadors keeper.
Nyle running through 4 players but again tackled at the last, Chesworth deserving more from the game. First half continues much the same with Finlay and Josh linking up with Nyle being denied at every turn by the goalie and defence ending the first half 1 - 0 to the good. Second half starts with Joe midfield in replace of Finlay, Rory powering through from midfield passing to Josh looking for his second before being fouled outside the box, Nyle with the resulting free kick, which was cleared for a throw. Taken by Jake the ball dropped to Nyle who turned and shot low across the goal for Chesworth’s second, 2 - 0 Chesworth.
Chesworth now camping in the Ambassadors half, Josh continuing with good strong runs to goal but again frustrated by strong defending, Joe then has a little run himself only to be tackled and denied a shot. Ambassadors now try to turn things around and heap pressure on Chesworth resulting in 4 corners and a darting run which ended when Callum brought the playing to the ground. He made up for the foul by stopping the free kick, and clearing to Nyle who set Josh away up the middle of the pitch but as the crowd roared with expectant joy, another goal saving tackle came in from the Ambassadors defenders. Sub - Finlay on and Josh off having had a great game. Free kick to Chesworth, after Nyle is brought down, falls to Rory who powers through the defence and shoots into the bottom corner, goal and 3 - 0 to Chesworth at the final whistle.
Man of the match – Rory Quigley
Horsham Ambassadors 0 v 1 Chesworth Rovers Blue
Elliot in goal, Vinny, Danny, Charlie B, Luke, Jack, Seb and Ben, sub Charlie M.
Great start by Chesworth, Seb full of running looking to break away and passing up to Ben who is dealt with by 3 defenders, Charlie B is full of beans and has a run with the ball into midfield, obviously the Redbull breakfast is working. Jack is being dealt with by heavy tackles from the Ambassadors, and Luke is having a go through midfield but Chesworth have been caught on the break and Danny has to work hard to stop the attack, but Ambassadors go past Danny and Vinny releases the bright green boots to dazzle the attackers and take the ball.
Seb with a great run at Ambassadors goal passes across goal and the ball is blasted towards goal by Charlie B, it went off like a rocket and skimmed the outside of the post to loud OOHHHHS! from the crowd. The midfield is dominated by Luke and Seb, Jack working hard defending and pushing forward to release Ben. All hands to defence now as Ambassadors push up on an all-out attack forcing Elliot into action and at one point Elliot stopped the ball on the line.... was it over.... it was on the line ref!! first half ends 0 - 0.
Second half starts how the first half ended, with both teams attacking, Chesworth have swapped Elliot for Danny in goal, and Charlie M on for Charlie B, Elliot made the running with Seb and Luke putting pressure on the Ambassadors, Jack has a shot on the goal dealt with by the keeper and then the resulting attack from Ambassadors was snuffed out by Seb who was fouled on the returning break. this became the flavour for the rest of the half, Ambassadors getting the tackles late and committing fouls, Charlie M gets hacked down in the centre of the pitch but nothing was given, so Charlie is asking the ref where the free kick was, arms open wide. Ambassadors attack from a corner forces Danny to pull off an amazing save, and the kick falls to Luke who passes to Elliot, his pass is blocked and the ball rolls to Charlie B who blasts another rocket at the goal again wide off a defender. The resulting corner enters the box and a mistake by the Ambassadors keeper does not go unpunished as Jack swoops to score the match winner in the dying seconds. Chesworth 1 - 0.

Chesworth Rovers Red 5 v 0 Hurstpierpoint Invincibles
Leo, Rory, Nyle, Harry, Jake, Callum, Seb & Josh
The game starts off with both teams evenly matched. Rory competes well in the centre allowing Chesworth to apply pressure, which results in a corner. Callum takes it well only for it to be cleared by Hurst.
A Hurst attack is stopped by Harry, who then runs the ball out of defence to set up a Chesworth attack, putting in a nice ball into the heart of the Hurst defence. Nyle then puts pressure on Hurst, winning the ball and putting in a nice chip, which is just wide.
As the game progresses, Chesworth start to take control. Harry puts in a smashing long range shot from 40m out, which Hurst only just manage to save and put out for a corner. The corner is taken and Hurst break out of defence and try a long range shot. Leo makes a great save and then hoofs it back up field. More pressure from Chesworth forces Hurst to get 7 men behind the ball, it is all Chesworth at this point.
Another great shot from Harry and another corner. A rash tackle on the edge of the area results in a controversial penalty. Harry takes it well. 1 – 0 Chesworth.
Hurst try to get back into the game and take a great shot from a long way out which just goes wide. Chesworth attack again and again. A nice shot from Callum is saved and Harry shoots just wide.
Nyle comes off and Josh is on.
Hurst try to get something going but a good clearance from Jake puts paid to that. Callum takes the ball forward again and Seb pressurises the Hurst defence. Harry puts in a long throw and Rory shoots a rocket of a shot and scores. 2 – 0 Chesworth.
More pressure from Chesworth, a lovely ball from Josh passing it through to Seb who shoots from the right hand side and just misses at the near post. The Referee blows the whistle for half time and Hurst breathe a sigh of relief that it is just 2 – 0.
Nyle is back and replaces Callum on the left wing.
A fantastic moment of play from Chesworth, Harry passes to Josh who then puts it through to Nyle, who takes a shot at goal. The goalie makes a good save and Hurst clear.
Hurst set up an attack which leads to a corner. Jake heads the ball clear and allows Chesworth to attack again. More good pressure from Chesworth as Rory asserts his control on the midfield.
Harry throws the ball in, it is passed back to him and he puts in a lovely long cross to Nyle who has his shot saved. Josh goes on an attacking run, moving though the defence, and it takes a good tackle from Hurst to stop him.
Nyle puts in a cross and an unfortunate Hurst player trying to clear the ball puts it into his own net. 3 – 0 Chesworth.
Callum comes on for Jake and immediately puts in a great tackle in defence.
Further pressure from Chesworth and Nyle puts in a cross to Josh. The goalie comes out and Josh and the goalie collide. Great commitment from both players but the goalie wins the ball. Hurst set up an attack and Harry puts in another great tackle.
Josh puts a great ball down the line to Nyle who puts in a fantastic cross to Seb, who then shoots just wide, Class football.
A Hurst player down injured in the Chesworth penalty area stops play for a while. When play resumes Chesworth are on the attack again and Harry and Josh combine to score goal number four. 4 – 0 Chesworth.
Chesworth are relentless in applying pressure, Josh fires a great shot towards the near post only for the goalie to make a fantastic save. Eventually the pressure pays off. Harry strikes a cracking shot from outside the penalty area into the right hand side of the net. The goalie has no chance. 5-0 Chesworth.
Hurst come back desperate for some consolation, it looks like they are going to get it when a Hurst player hits a superb ball towards the top right hand side of the gaol. Leo has other ideas, as he moves quickly across his goal mouth and pushes the ball wide.
The referee blows the whistle to bring an end to the game.
Man of the match – Rory Quigley
Chesworth Rovers Blue 3 v 3 Hurstpierpoint Invincibles
Jack, Elliot, Ben, Danny, Vinny, Charlie, Finlay,
The game starts with Hurst putting Chesworth under pressure and Elliot is forced to make 2 great saves. Hurst continue to apply relentless pressure and a long range shot from Hurst just beats Elliot. 1 – 0 Hurst.
Chesworth now start to get into the game. Finlay puts a nice ball though to Jack who heads towards goal only to be tackled by a Hurst player. Hurst try to apply pressure on Chesworth but good play from Finlay, fighting hard in the midfield and Danny and Vinny putting in some excellent tackles in defence, keep them at bay.
As Hurst apply pressure again Jack comes back and brings the ball out from the defence passing to Finlay who moves it up field. The tide is now starting to turn and Chesworth take more control of the game with Ben and Charlie really getting stuck in.
Hurst attacks get less frequent but a lovely shot from a Hurst player forces a good save from Elliot. Great commitment from all of the team means that Chesworth come off at half time with all to play for.
Jack switches with Elliot in Goal.
Chesworth start the half searching for the equaliser. Finlay makes a number of good runs, and Danny applies pressure on the left hand side.
Eventually Elliot puts through a lovely pass to Danny, who to knocks it in to Ben who scores 1 – 1.
Chesworth continue to exert pressure on Hurst looking to take the lead but then Hurst put in a long ball past the Chesworth defence. Jack comes out but is beaten. 2 – 1 Hurst against the run of play.
Chesworth come back at Hurst and apply more pressure but with little reward.
Hurst get a breakaway and a shot from Hurst is put wide by Jack for a corner. A well placed corner comes in and Hurst score. 3 – 1.
Things don’t look good for Chesworth but the players have other ideas. Charlie collects an injury and Nyle comes on to replace him. Nyle puts in a good ball to Finlay who fires a cracking shot at goal, giving the goalie no chance. 3 – 2 Hurst.
Chesworth are determined to get another and a drop ball is kicked up field which Ben chases and passes to Danny. Danny puts the ball in to Nyle who scores 3 – 3. What a comeback!
Chesworth continue to pressure, with Charlie back on for Nyle, looking for the winner but the referee blows his whistle for full time.

Chesworth Rovers Red U8’s 1 v 3 Chesworth Rovers Red U9’s
Red Team starting line up: Josh, Rory, Harry, Nyle, Jake, Finlay & Leo
Under 8’s KO, but loose procession quickly and soon the under 9’s advance and shoot, but great save Leo. Under 8’s attack down field and Rory get to shoot goal bound but the ball is cleared off the line! Unlucky Rory. Under 9’s advance up field and some passing play results it a shooting opportunity, Jack O takes a left foot shot straight into the roof of the net 1-0. Under 8’s ko and try passing about but loose procession and let under 9’s into another shooting position but again great save Leo. From the goal kick under 8’s soon lose it again and from distance Jack O shoots again on his left peg, another great goal 2 -0. Under 8’s ko and try to pass and tackle but are being outplayed and tackled and if it wasn’t some staunch defending by Harry at the back and in particular Jake the under 9’s would be shooting more. Jake wins procession and passes to Nyle down the left wing but every time Nyle tries to advance he is stopped in his tracks by, not one by two under 9’s players, he’s just not getting any change down the left at the moment. The under 8’s can’t get out of their half at the moment and if it wasn’t for another good save by Leo the scoreline would be bigger. Tactical change as Finlay gives way for Callum and Nyle swaps wings. Our lads start to battle and pass a little more with a bit more success and it takes a free kick on Nyle to stop our attack. The cross in towards Josh but he can’t get on the end of it, and in disappointment as he thought he was going to get his second touch of the half but no the half time whistle goes , 2- 0 at half time.
Under 9’s ko but quickly loose the ball to the under 8’s midfield and after a short period 50 / 50 possession Nyle shoots from distance and a cracking shot nettles in the bottom left hand corner of the under 9’s net, 2 – 1! It’s a lot more balanced game in the second half and both teams try hard and have half chances until the ball gets cross in from the left wing from the under 9’s but uncharacteristically Jack O misses a sitter! Under 8’s are riding their luck but deservedly so. It must be mentioned that it’s good defending at the back and great tackling in midfield by both teams. Jack O shoots again and this time wins a corner, but the corner misses everyone in the box and no harm is done. Substitute for the under 8’s as Josh is replaced by Finlay and Nyle is pushed up front. Finlay has a shot and wins a corner but nothing comes from it. Under 9’s shoot but Jake puts in a good block only for ball to fall near Callum who is tackled in his own area and Jack O gets another shot in, goal, 3 – 1. From the KO the ball is lost or won by both sides until the under 9’s win another corner. The ball comes in but Rory headers out and manages to start another counter attack. Nyle takes a corner and what a great corner it is but no one attacks it and the under 9’s get away unpunished as it goes out for a throw. The under 8’s attack again and you have to say this second half is definitely 50 / 50 on procession and chances and it’s only good depending by the under 9’s prevent more shots goal bound. The under 9’s have their chances as well as Josh Pratt has a good opportunity with only seconds to go but shoots wide. The whistle goes, final score 3 -1. A valiant performance by our under 8’s in the glorious sunshine here at Forest Boys.

Chesworth Rovers Blue U8’s 0 v 2 Chesworth Rovers Blue U9’s
Blue Team starting Line-up: Jack, Ben, Seb, Luke, Vinnie, Danny M & Elliot
The Under 9’s ko to start the proceedings, and soon get into their stride and get in early shot which Eliiot saves at the expense of a corner. Corner comes in and it kicked back out for another corner. The corner comes across into the danger area and after a bit of scrappy defending a soft shot unfortunately trickles under Elliot, and debutant Jack ‘L’ scores a goal with his first ever touch in a Chesworth kit! 1 – 0. The opening exchanges generally leave the under 9’s with possession and it isn’t long before another shot is unleashed but goes just wide. (Apparently our keeper had his angles covered anyway, according to our ‘youthful’ and ‘promising’ Red team manager now engrossed in the battle next to us on the side lines). The even more youthful and promising blue team manager decides to bring Danny M off and send Charlie B into the fray. Seb advances down the middle after a good tackle and sets up Charlie B to shoot but the keeper saves, as the first half comes to a conclusion. Half time 1 – 0.
Charlie B starts off the second half in goal and soon is called into action to pull off a good save. Elliot is now battling in the middle and Jack trying to win things up front. Seb still battling and winning as many tackles as he is losing sets up a good opportunity for Ben on the left wing, the under 8’s have found some confidence and attack in numbers but unfortunately the ball goes off for a goal kick. As the ball comes out some good play by Luke ends in another shot as the under 8’s are definitely holding their own at the moment. Then the under 9’s counter attack and the move ends in a corner. Seb clears to start a counter attack and a promising move ends in a tackle from the under 9’s and typical of the blue’s main problem this game of just not releasing the ball for a pass quick enough, therefore letting the under 9’s win the ball back too often. The Blues keep trying and win the ball back again, good play by Ben sets up Elliot who shoots just wide. Soon after Danny M puts in a great tackle and passing move, Seb still battling away but they are running out of time in this game. The under 9’s advance and shoot wide. Charlie B gets in other shooting chance but goes wide. Last few moments of the game as James ‘L’ for the under 9’s intercepts the ball and unleashes one, goal! 2 – 0. The game kicks off again but the final whistle soon goes to bring the proceedings to an end. Good effort Blues.

Chesworth Rovers (Reds) 5 – 0 Ashington Cougars
Chesworth lined up with Finlay in goal, Leo and Jake at the back, Callum, Rory and Nyle in the middle with Josh up front. Chesworth started very lively with a mazy run from Nyle finishing with a good cross allowing josh to get his first strike at goal and forcing a Chesworth corner. Further pressure from Chesworth with 8 corners forced chance after chance and only some good saves from the Cougar’s keeper could deny Jake, Josh and Nyle on separate occasions. Leo took a fast throw in to Callum’s feet, Callum turned, looked up and played a delightful ball to Josh who controlled well and finished past the keeper 1-0 Chesworth. Chesworth kept mounting the pressure until the first half whistle blows. At the start of the second half Jake replaced Finlay in goal, Leo and Finlay at the back, Joe, Callum and Harry in midfield and Josh remaining upfront. Chesworth started the second half as they ended the first with some good sustained possession, Callum picked the ball up in the middle of the park and in a copy of the first goal finds Josh who again makes no mistake 2-0 Chesworth. Cougars tried to battle back, but with Chesworth playing such a controlled passing game it was only a matter of time until 3-0 with Harry half volleying home from 15 yards smashing it over the keeper’s head. 4-0 follows with Josh picking up his hatrick, latching onto a poor clearance from the Cougars and slotted it past an outstretched keeper. Rory and Nyle replace Callum and Josh, with Chesworth passing the ball for fun and making good movements’ off the ball, Finlay finished things off by making an intelligent run past 2 players and crossing the ball for Nyle to pick up a well deserved goal and Chesworth’s 5th. Ashington Cougars battled well, but every time they tried to break forward Joe, Leo or Harry would cut out any chance of a effort at goal and in this form there could only be one winner - Final score 5-0.
Man Of The Match – Callum Palmer
Chesworth Rovers (blues) 4 – 0 Ashington
The blue team took to the field with Jack in goal, Vinnie and Danny at the back, Elliot, Seb and Charlie B in midfield with Ben upfront. The start signified how Chesworth wanted to play with Ben passing the ball back to Vinnie who sprayed it out wide to Elliot leading to Chesworth’s first strike at goal. A defensive slip nearly allowed the Cougars to take the lead but a good stop from Jack ensured only a corner was given. From this point on Chesworth were firmly on the attack with pressure mounting in the cougar’s half, Elliot made a run through 2 players and managed to release the shot which went just wide, it was then Ben’s turn to tease the crowd with a snap shot effort just going to the right of the post. Chesworth were firmly in control but as yet no goal with Ben going close again after a good throw from Vinnie allows him one on one with the keeper forcing the corner. From the corner Vinnie popped up and managed to strike the ball past the Cougar’s keeper, 1-0 Chesworth! Luke came on for Danny and Charlie M on for Charlie B. A great save for the Cougar’s keeper denies Vinnie a second and Elliot manages to create a chance for Charlie M before the half time whistle blows, 1-0 Chesworth. The second half begun with Charlie B in goal, Vinnie and Danny at the back, Charlie M, Jack and Luke in the middle with Elliot up front. Elliot is the first to try for the second with a great run past the Cougars defence, Elliot is back again this time to put a ball through for Danny to take a strike at goal, with pressure mounting on the Cougars they tried hard to break into the Chesworths half but some great defensive work from Luke denied them the opportunity to clear and the ball is picked up by Elliot who gets past a player and unleashes a strike at goal 2-0 Chesworth! Vinnie is subbed for Seb and gets into the thick of the action, Jack makes a strong tackle to win the ball and puts Danny clear who fires home 3-0 Chesworth! Ben wraps things up with a great turn to lose the defenders and pokes it past the Cougars keeper final score 4-0 to Chesworth with a great display and good team work from every member of the blue team.

Chesworth Rovers (Reds) 9-0 Steyning Strikers
A grey, blustery day threatening showers couldn’t dampen the excitement and anticipation of our first league game of the season.
The coaches have promised us a few changes and the starting line-up included a run up front for Rory alongside Josh, with Finlay and Nyle in midfield and Harry and Jake at the back.
From the start, Nyle was tearing down the left and within a minute had sent over a couple of great crosses but neither was converted. The early breakthrough came when a sharp shot from Finlay was partially blocked by the keeper only for the Master Poacher, Josh, to tap in from two yards. More Chesworth pressure resulted in a sequence of corners well taken by Nyle and two excellent saves from The Strikers’ keeper. However, when a third corner bounced around before coming back to Nyle he decided to do the job himself and crashed the ball into the far, top corner. Rovers Reds were getting into their stride now, stringing three, four and five passes together - one such move ending with an easy tap in for Findlay. Some token resistance from Steyning resulted in a corner but this was comfortably dealt with by Harry driving out of defence, three passes later and another shot flashed across the face of the Steyning goal. Yet another corner preceded a good shot from Finlay drawing another good parry from the keeper but when the ball was cleared only as far as Nyle just outside the box he smashed it back, into the top corner of the goal - 4-0 Chesworth.
Half time saw Callum on as a replacement for Jake. Second half started as the first ended – rain coming down and Nyle scoring a great individual gaol to complete his hat-trick. Not to be out done, Josh grabbed a second goal after a goalmouth scramble – 6-0 Chesworth and six became seven when Finlay grabbed his second with a tap in following another parried shot from Nyle. The beleaguered Strikers keeper was unlucky to turn a low, hard corner into his own net for number eight but received deserved praise when turning a brilliantly struck free kick from Harry over the top when it was bound for the net. Unfortunately his moment of joy was fleeting as another low, hard corner from Nyle was once again turned into his own net – 9-0.
Overall Rovers Reds were irresistible and their willingness and ability to pass, pass, pass planted a broad smile on the face of Coach Ellis. Steyning were a bit overwhelmed but to their credit, their boys stuck at it and didn’t let their heads drop.
A great start to the Reds campaign.
Man of the Match: Nyle
Chesworth Rovers (Blues) 2-4 Steyning Strikers
The Rovers Blues lined up with Jack in goal, Vinnie and Danny at the back, Seb and Elliot in midfield and Ben and Luke up front and the game kicked off with a window of blue sky overhead but this was very quickly replaced by another torrential shower.
Early exchanges were pretty even with both sides struggling to gain any advantage in the heavy rain. Luke and Seb were battling hard and once again, all the Chesworth boys were looking to make passes. A good pass from Seb soon found Elliot just inside the box and a low shot into the corner saw Rovers Blues take a 1-0 lead.
Chesworth kept the pressure on with more passes and shots and seemed to be taking control. A good quick throw saw Elliot round one man to be through on goal where he made no mistake scoring his and Rovers Blues’ second.
Steyning showed no signs of giving up and a poor defensive clearance allowed them to grab a goal back on the stroke of half time, 2-1.
Chesworth started the second half with Elliot taking a turn in goal – a straight swap with Jack and Charlie B on for Seb. Steyning’s unchanged team found more of the ball and more space and immediately began to pressure the Blues’ goal with Vinnie rising to the challenge and Elliot called on to make a good save.
The pressure was beginning to tell and unable to clear their lines the Rovers’ defence gave away another short range goal. Sticking to the game plan though, the Rovers Blues continued to look to push forward and pass the ball – good to see but a slight reluctance to track back left them stretched and a Steyning counter attack ended with a great shot hitting the cross bar followed shortly by a similar attack which was this time converted and Strikers took the lead 2-3. Then just a few minutes later another run down the middle saw Steyning extend their lead to 2-4, which was how it ended.
A bright start by Rovers Blues saw good passing and support which should rightly be encouraged and please the coaches. As the game went on though, holes appeared in the midfield and defence which Steyning capitalised on. Overall a fair result with good signs for optimism.

Saturday 10th Sept.11
The first match day for the Chesworth under eights got under way away to Henfield FC. The boys were very eager to start the season again and the Chesworth management team opted for a mixed blue and red team for the first match.
Henfield 2-2 Chesworth Rovers Blue
The blue team started proceedings stronger than their Henfield counterparts. Vinny, making his Chesworth debut was solid at the back with some great tackles and strong throw ins which added a bit of steel to the back line. Ben “the poacher” Etheridge was on hand to open the scoring with a shot from a corner which squeezed under the keeper’s body. Nyall was on good form with some strong mazy runs which resulted in some near misses for the Chesworth team. Half time 1-0. Luke went in goal for the second half replacing Elliot. Henfield started much stronger in the second half and some good tackles by Elliott and Vinny kept the home side at bay. Luke pulled of a good save from a Henfield move and eventually some continued pressure from the Henfield side resulted in an equalizer. Soon after another Henfield attack saw Luke come out of goal to narrow the angle and he made a great block from the first shot but a Henfield man was on hand to slot in another goal. With the score at 2-1 to Henfield, Chesworth started to press forward. Danny, Elliot and Charlie M were all in the thick of it battling away with Vinny mopping up behind them. Nyall was continuing to press the Henfield defence and eventually Chesworth were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box after a foul on Nyall. Nyall picked himself up and curled a cracking free kick into the goal for a deserved equalizer. Vinny, Nyall and Elliot all had strong games with Vinny just edging the other two for man of the match. Final Score 2-2.
Man of the match = Vinny Monella
Henfield 3-3 Chesworth Rovers Red
The Red team started their match very strongly and pressed forward against the Henfield team. After some good efforts on goal from Rory, Jack and Harry they were rewarded for their efforts with a goal from Jack following a good shot. Jake was strong at the back, with Rory bossing the midfield and Harry making some strong runs. Josh was always a threat near goal, with Callum and Seb playing their part. Leo was not tested in goal until late in the first half when a corner came over which deflected off Josh, looping over Leo’s head to make the score 1-1 at half time. The second half saw Leo come out of goal and Jack in. Henfield pushed forward in the second half and Callum made an excellent last gasp tackle to keep the score at 1-0. Josh and Leo then produced the best move of the day with two one-twos which put Josh through to score what was an excellent goal to put Chesworth 2-1 up. A few moments later a big goal kick from Henfield’s goalkeeper saw their striker run straight down the middle and score to make it 2-2. Henfield then took the lead when their striker picked up a clearance and put it straight in the back of the net, 3-2 Henfield. Chesworth showed strong spirit Finlay made a good pass to Callum which he just shot wide from. Towards the end of the match Chesworth won a corner which resulted in a goal with a pass from Callum to Josh, which Josh slotted into the back of the net in his usual assured manner. The match finished 3-3 which on balance was probably a fair result.
Man of the match = Josh Hayes
